Navigating the mystical paths of Bhutan
A trusted companion through the Land of the Thunder Dragon
For centuries, travellers and explorers have looked up at the clear Himalayan night sky and found their way by the bright stars of Orion. Our agency takes its name from that idea of direction and discovery.
Orion Bhutan Travel was founded by a professional Bhutanese tour guide with 12 years of experience in the country’s tourism industry. We plan private journeys through Bhutan’s valleys, sacred fortresses and mountain landscapes, and we take care of the practical details, from visa and Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) arrangements to guides, drivers and hotels.

Ways to travel
Choose how you want to experience Bhutan
Every journey is private and can be adjusted, but most travellers start from one of these four styles.
Ancient monasteries, sacred temples, dzongs and village life, with time to understand the stories behind them.
Plan your trip around a Tshechu, with colourful masked dances, traditional music and blessings at a dzong or temple.
Mountain trails, high passes, lakes and remote villages, from short ridge walks to the Jomolhari route.
Forests, river valleys, alpine meadows and wetlands, home to colourful Himalayan species and rare birds.

Destinations
Five regions, one small kingdom
Bhutan rises from subtropical foothills in the south to glaciers on the Tibetan border. Each region has its own landscapes, dialects and festivals.
Western Bhutan
Paro, Thimphu and Punakha: the most visited region, with ancient monasteries, fertile valleys and the country’s only international airport.
Central Bhutan
The spiritual and historical heart of the country, rich in ancient temples, sacred monasteries and peaceful valleys.
Eastern Bhutan
Less travelled and deeply traditional, known for weaving villages, ancient temples and warm hospitality.
Northern Bhutan
The high Himalayas, remote highland villages and some of the most spectacular trekking routes anywhere.
Southern Bhutan
Lush subtropical forests, wildlife and lively local communities, often overlooked by first-time visitors.
Tshechu and festivals
Time your journey around a festival
A tshechu is a religious festival held at a dzong or temple, with masked dances (cham), traditional music and blessings that draw whole communities together. Festival dates follow the Bhutanese lunar calendar, so they change from year to year.
